As Muslims across Nigeria prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Delta State has deployed 1,070 personnel in a statewide operation to ensure safety during the festive period.

The Delta State Commandant, Chinedu Igbo, ordered the large-scale deployment, directing officers to protect critical national assets, public facilities, and locations expected to attract large crowds throughout the celebrations. The operation will focus on prayer grounds, recreational centres, schools, and other sensitive locations considered essential to public safety and economic stability.
In a statement released in Asaba by the command’s spokesperson, Anthony Uchenna, the NSCDC said all units have been placed on high alert, with special forces and component commanders instructed to identify potential flashpoints and strengthen surveillance across the state.
The command noted that the protection of infrastructure such as schools, public utilities, and government facilities remains a top priority, particularly during festive periods that often come with increased security risks.
Security officials also stressed that the operation is being carried out in collaboration with other law-enforcement agencies to ensure a peaceful and incident-free celebration.
The heightened security measures come at a time when renewed terror attacks and violent incidents in parts of Nigeria, especially in the northern region, have increased calls for stronger nationwide security arrangements. Authorities say the recent wave of attacks has made it necessary for security agencies to adopt more proactive strategies to prevent possible threats during major religious and public gatherings.
Despite the concerns, the Commandant extended goodwill to Muslim faithful in Delta State, across Nigeria, and around the world, wishing them a peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration and expressing hope for improved security and stability across the country.
