The medical outreach, held on Sunday, brought together doctors from multiple specialties who offered consultations and basic treatments. The team focused on managing common chronic and endemic illnesses in the area, prescribing medications and referring patients for further surgical care or hospitalization where necessary. The initiative aimed to ease the burden of limited healthcare access in remote communities.
During the exercise, the team successfully treated a seven-year-old boy diagnosed with an incarcerated inguinal hernia, a potentially serious condition requiring urgent medical attention. Medical advice was also provided to several patients suffering from vision and hearing-related conditions.
According to Li Zheng, head of the Chinese medical team, the outreach extended beyond healthcare delivery, serving as an opportunity to strengthen ties between China and Sierra Leone through direct community engagement.
Community leaders welcomed the initiative, with Rokel Village elder Mohamed S. Kagbo expressing appreciation for the quality of care provided. He noted that access to such a wide range of medical professionals is rare in the area and encouraged continued visits from the team.
