Calvary United Community Church launches 24th anniversary convention: “Our security is guaranteed” in Christ

Calvary United Community Church (CUCC) in The Gambia joyfully launched its 24th anniversary convention on February 18, 2026, under the inspiring theme Our Security is Guaranteed. This multi-day celebration, running through Sunday, February 22, 2026, serves as a powerful testament to God’s unwavering faithfulness over more than two decades of ministry in West Africa.

Founded on February 16, 2002, by Pastor Bidwell Mendy, CUCC began as an indigenous, Bible-believing ministry with a clear vision: to “reach the unreached” in The Gambia using local languages and to proclaim the absolute gospel of Jesus Christ while upholding holiness in both personal conduct and communal life. Pastor Mendy, who had previously served with the Church of Pentecost after theological studies in Ghana, planted this church in South Kanifing, Serrekunda (near the bustling Greater Banjul Area) before moving to the new Cathedral in Kombo North District, with a commitment to evangelism, revival, and unity among believers.

Over the years, CUCC has grown into a vibrant congregation known for its emphasis on spiritual renewal, community outreach, and international partnerships. The church regularly hosts Friday prayer meetings at 6:30 PM, midweek Bible studies, annual gospel crusades, and large-scale revival services that attract participants from across The Gambia and beyond. Past events have included impactful crusades (such as the three-day October 2023 outreach) and yearly themed revivals like “Back to the Altar”.

Anniversary conventions have become a cherished tradition, typically spanning five days in mid-February with revival preaching, worship, testimonies, and thanksgiving services. These milestones reflect on God’s provision and growth:

  • The 20th anniversary (2022) featured ministers from the USA and elsewhere.
  • The 21st (2023) concluded with strong attendance and spiritual impact.
  • The 23rd (February 19–23, 2025) welcomed teams from Sevierville, Tennessee, USA, and Nairobi, Kenya.

This year’s 24th anniversary builds on that legacy, kicking off on February 18 with a focus on divine security amid life’s uncertainties. The theme draws from biblical assurances—such as promises in Psalms, Isaiah, and the New Testament—that believers’ ultimate safety rests in God’s protection, not earthly circumstances. In a nation where Christians form a minority in a predominantly Muslim society, this message resonates deeply, encouraging steadfast faith, peace, and hope.

The convention features distinguished guest ministers bringing fresh anointing and international perspectives:

  • Brother Jason Keith and Linda Click, from West Virginia, USA
  • Pastor Joseph Okosagah, from Ontario, Canada

These speakers, alongside Pastor Bidwell Mendy and the local leadership, are expected to deliver powerful messages, lead worship, and minister in prayer and healing during evening sessions and the climactic Sunday thanksgiving service on February 22.

The event not only celebrates 24 years of God’s sustaining grace but also reaffirms CUCC’s mission to propagate holistic salvation, foster revival in the body of Christ, and extend compassionate service to the community through initiatives like water projects, education support, and evangelistic outreach.

As the convention unfolds from February 18 to 22, 2026, worshippers gather at the Church’s cathedral in Latriya Village, Kombo North District of The Gambia, to praise God for past victories, renew their commitment to holiness, and embrace the assurance that “Our Security is Guaranteed” in Christ.
